Umurobyi Lodge is located on the furthest peninsula of Lake Kivu, at the very end of the tarmac road in Kibuye. The lodge sits just 500 meters from the bay where traditional fishing boats depart each evening for overnight fishing, catching the famous Sambaza—one of the rarest delicacies of baby fish. From the lodge, you have an exceptional view of the fishermen's movements and their activities throughout the night.

Umurobyi Lodge is the only hotel in Kibuye with a view of uninhabited islands, home to a unique ecosystem of fauna and flora. These islands are used solely for small-scale farming by the local population, preserving their natural beauty. This is the perfect retreat to escape the urban hustle and immerse yourself in the peaceful rhythm of local life.

    Our room was absolutely stunning—spacious, and immaculately clean. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the view from our window was breathtaking, offering a beautiful sight of the lake Kivu and its beautiful islands.

    The hotel’s amenities were top-notch and the restaurant served delicious meals with different tasty options to start the day.

    What stood out the most was the hospitality of the staff (outstanding). Everyone went out of their way to ensure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. We truly felt like valued guests throughout our visit.

    This is my second weekend here, and I’m falling in love with this place. The lodge is really clean and well designed, and the views are simply stunning. The owners are incredibly welcoming, making you feel right at home. Not to mention the food, which has been fantastic. I highly recommend taking a kayak out to the nearby islands. It’s a beautiful way to discover the natural surroundings. I’ll definitely be returning!
